Message from the CEO

Dear traveler,

Last Wednesday, the W.H.O., World Health Organization, announced that COVID-19 has become a global epidemic (pandemic). It seems unreal for you, for me, for communities, for government leaders, for everyone here in the world. Reality takes precedence when we face the numbers. Given the daily evolution around COVID-19, “travel” quickly takes on a different meaning. Despite the uncertain and rapidly changing climate in which we live and work today due to the impact of COVID-19, I would also like to reassure you and outline the preventive measures we take as an airport to ensure your safety and the safety of our airport staff. Through this link you can consult our preventive measures.

Today are particularly challenging times for the aviation sector. This crisis therefore has an important impact on our aviation activities. In the meantime, several countries decide to close their airspace, which has an impact on normal schedules. In addition, travel is generally discouraged by the Foreign Affairs department. If you travel via our regional airports in the near future, please check the website of the airline TUI fly to see if your flight can continue. The airline is currently working day and night to provide their passengers with the best possible information and assistance.
With this I would like to personally thank you, dear traveler, for the trust you have in our regional airport. I therefore hope, just like you, that you will find the opportunity to travel again very often from Antwerp Airport.
Together we will fight this pandemic!

Best regard,

Marcel Buelens
CEO & Accountable Manager Flanders International Airport Ostend-Bruges/Antwerp

Double frequency on the Antwerp-Munich route

Monday 26 March 2018 — Today, a VLM Airlines Fokker 50 departed at 12.40 P.M. from Antwerp Airport to Birmingham, the second largest city in Great Britain, thus establishing a daily connection between Antwerp and the West Midlands capital. At VLM Airlines, a drink and snack are included in the ticket price and every passenger is entitled to check in a baggage of up to 23 kg free of charge. At Antwerp Airport, passengers can check in up to 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time of their flight.

At the start of the summer season, the flight program underwent some changes. The morning flights to Munich and Maribor depart three hours earlier than before and from now on VLM Airlines will operate both in the morning and in the evening return flights from Antwerp to Munich.

VLM Airlines also offers scheduled flights from Antwerp to London City Airport (3 to 4 return flights daily on weekdays), Zurich (twice a day on weekdays) and Maribor. The airline also operates a daily frequency on the Munich-Maribor route (weekdays only).

Antwerp Airport announces satisfactory year results 2017

Antwerp, 5th January 2018 – During the year 2017 Antwerp Airport welcomed 273.167  passengers and registered 37.511  flight movements.

Results
In 2017 the airport welcomed 273.167 passengers, a slight decrease of 1% compared to 2016 when the airport registered 276.523 passengers. Several elements had an impact on the results. In 2016 20.000 additional passengers were unable to fly from Brussels Zaventem following the Terrorist Attacks and flew in March and April from Antwerp Airport.

When excluding these passengers from the total result, Antwerp Airport would achieve in 2017 an increase of 6% compared to 2016.  Uncertainties at CityJet and VLM also caused less passengers on flights to London City.

The number of flight movements decreased by 9% with a total of 37.511 movements in 2017 compared to 41.403 movements during 2016.

Future
At the end of 2017, TUI launched flights to Innsbruck. A very popular destination for those who enjoy a short ski break or simply the Austrian snow. VLM will launch on January 22nd, two daily flights Antwerp-Zürich. Later this year the airport welcomes Flybe with flights to London Southend and the newest TUI route to Florence.
