AIRPORT CLOSES FROM 19 SEPTEMBER TO 25 OCTOBER DUE TO RUNWAY RENOVATION WORKS

This autumn, Antwerp Airport’s runway will be completely renewed. As a result, the airport will be closed to all air traffic between 19 September and 25 October. The runway renovation will be carried out by LOM Vlaanderen, the Airport Development Company that is responsible for the management and maintenance of the airport infrastructure on behalf of the Flemish Government.

The renovation of the runway of an airport is necessary to be able to continue to guarantee safety. During the reconstruction, a great deal of effort is put into sustainability. In addition to a new asphalt layer, there will also be new sewerage and drainage systems. The lighting will also be replaced by sustainable LED lighting.

During the work, local residents will be taken into account as much as possible. For this reason, it was decided not to work 24 hours a day. The runway will be worked on every day between 7 am and 10 pm. This means that the work will take a little longer than is theoretically possible, but the possible nuisance for local residents will be limited to the absolute minimum.

The airport will remain fully operational until 18 September 2022. After the works, all activities will restart. Airlines TUI Fly will once again be flying from Antwerp as of 26 October.
