Belgian consumer organization rates 178 airports.
Belgian consumer organization Test-Aankoop invited over 11.000 passengers to rate airports they have used for their recent travels. Antwerp and Ostend-Bruges received exceptional ratings for quality.
Among all Belgian airports, the airports situated in Flanders received the highest average scores. Antwerp was even elected into the world’s top 5 after Singapore Changi, Tokyo Narita, Porto and before Doha International Airport. Both airports realized substantial better scores than most airports in the survey, especially in terms of sense of security, signage and security check.
Among the 178 airports worldwide that were rated by travellers, Antwerp International Airport was awarded 4th best, resulting in 5 stars for this airport which is unique for Belgium. The participating passengers assigned 8,2 points for signage, 7,7 for security check and 8,4 for the general sense of safety at Antwerp Airport.
During the yearly Night of the SME’s Flanders (Small and Medium Enterprises) hosted in the Hilton Hotel Antwerpen, Marcel Buelens was rewarded with the “Personality of the Year” award. A total of 7 awards were handed out to enterprises and individuals who made a substantial contribution to the economy (today and tomorrow).
Since Marcel Buelens’ arrival as CEO, Antwerp International Airport has realized an impressive and sustainable passenger growth of +128%, attracted TUI as new client and added many new routes.
Mr. Buelens was elected by the members because of his “enormous efforts to revitalise Antwerp International Airport”.
In his first reaction Marcel Buelens declared: ‘This is a wonderful surprise! I wish to dedicate the trophy to the fantastic staff of Antwerp- and Ostend Airport who put in so much effort -night and day- to develop the regional airports of the future. “
New airline powdair has launched ticket sales through its website powdair.ski with a winter schedule that links Sion Airport with eight airports in the UK, Germany and Belgium.
The skiers airline, based in Sion – the heart of Switzerland’s winter sport region, the Valais, will offer skiers and snowboarders across the UK, Northern Germany and the Benelux Countries the chance to reach some of the world’s most famous winter sports resorts quickly and efficiently.
Flights commence from December 14, 2017 and will significantly cut transfer times to some of Switzerland’s most popular ski resorts for winter sports enthusiasts including Zermatt, Verbier, Saas Fee, Crans Montana and Nendaz. A variety of transfer options from Sion Airport to onward destinations are available to book at the point of ticket purchase, including shared and private journeys to the major resorts in the region.
Ticket pricing for powdair will be completely transparent with very little fluctuation across peak dates, meaning that families won’t feel hard done by during the busier school holiday periods – it means booking up fast, but at little or no extra cost than during the non-peak times.

An increasing number of travelers are finding their way to the regional airports in Belgium. The ease of access, short distances and a hassle free environment are major advantages of our airports, and are also the reasons why an increasing number of travelers are choosing to fly from our airports.
Results from our Delight survey for Antwerp Airport (861 respondents) in May 2016 also show why people are travelling from this airport.
The works at the airport terminal are advancing and are expected to be ready by the beginning of next year. Besides the fact that passengers will now enjoy much more space airside, the expansion works will also allow us to improve our service offerings for the travelers with a bar, shop and VIP zone. This is in line with the strategy of Antwerp Airport – to optimize the customer experience.
Following a yearly tradition, Antwerp Airport welcomed the holy man Saint Nicholas and his helpers at the airport on Sunday 20th November. Hundreds of children awaited his arrival on what must have been the most windy day of the year. This initiative is organized by a group of local businesses and receives the full support of the airport as part of our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program. Events like these allow us to connect with the local community in a positive manner and is part of our strategy to enhance the interaction between the airport and its neighbors.
