Year results 2018

Antwerp, 27 March 2019 – During the year 2018 Antwerp Airport welcomed 298.403 passengers, a growth of 10%.

Results
In 2018 the airport welcomed 298.403 passengers, a strong increase of 10% compared to 2017 when the airport registered 273.167 passengers. Business and training flights are increasing and have had a share of 66% whilst passenger flights only make up 12,6% of all movements.

Because of the bankruptcy of VLM, there’s a decrease in number of scheduled flights in general but a higher occupation degree per airplane at TUI fly.

Future
Having 3 new destinations (Enfidha, Lublin and Tangier), the future looks bright for Antwerp Airport.

Flybe cashless service

All Flybe services, operated by Stobart Air, will introduce a cashless payment service from 31 March 2019 in line with the summer schedule. These services include flights from London Southend Airport to Newquay Cornwall, Antwerp, Caen, Groningen and Rennes. From 31 March, to make a payment on board these flights, only credit and debit card payment methods will be accepted. Introducing this service will ensure a more convenient, faster and more efficient in-flight experience for all passengers.

Flybe increases capacity on London Southend

Stobart Air, a Flybe franchise partner plans to increase capacity on London Southend to compensate the loss of the London City route.

As from 31 Augustus 2018, SHS Aviation B.V., the majority shareholder of the N.V. SHS Antwerp Aviation (VLM), decided at an extraordinary general assembly to dissolve the Belgian airline and to liquidate it.

Unfortunately, the longstanding route Antwerp to London City has been cancelled. To compensate the London City route, Stobart Air, a Flybe franchise partner, will increase flights between Antwerp and London Southend to daily except Saturday.

This will represent an increase of 50% in capacity on the route and shows a great commitment to the route and to all operations from Antwerp Airport. London travellers will be able to book this alternative with Flybe as from 4 September 2018. The additional flights are available on www.flybe.com.

Ciaran Smith, Network Development Manager at Stobart Air said: “The increase in frequency is a direct reflection of customer demand.  We are therefore very pleased to be able to offer our customers greater choice and convenience on the route and to build on our great relationship with Antwerp Airport.”  

London Southend Airport boasts its own dedicated railway station that is just 100 paces from the airport. The airport is served by up to eight train services an hour offering direct links to Stratford (45 minutes) and London Liverpool Street (51 minutes).

Flybe also offers quick and convenient connections of less than one to a range of destinations via London Southend Airport.

With an average 5 minute check in time and 3 minutes to get through security, London Southend is the Capital’s favourite airport and has been voted Which? Best airport for London 5 years in a row.

Antwerp Airport temporary inaccessible via Vosstraat

Start construction districts route Vosstraat from 06/08/2018

The city of Antwerp,  Management Company Antwerp Mobile (BAM) and the districts of Deurne, Berchem and Borgerhout are finishing the districts route along the Vosstraat. This cycle route runs between the Ring and the Krijgsbaan (R11) and is the big brother of the Ring cycle path.

The activities start on august the 6^th 2018 and take four months.

The airport will remain accessible through Luchthavenlei, whether at the front of the airport as just beyond the thrift store.

VLM celebrates 25 years Antwerp-London City Airport

Tuesday 15 May 2018 — On 15 May 1993, 25 years ago, VLM operated its first scheduled flight from Antwerp to London City Airport. This morning the 25th anniversary of the route was celebrated at London City Airport in the presence of a delegation of VLM and management and staff of the airport. All passengers on the London City Airport- Antwerp route today were offered a special “25 years Antwerp-London City” box with delicious chocolates from the famous Antwerp master chocolate maker Erik Goossens.

From 1993 to 2008 VLM operated flights on the route between Antwerp and London’s airport in the eastern part of the London Docklands. In 2008, CityJet took over the route. Last year, CityJet announced that it would discontinue its activities on the route. As a result, VLM decided to fly the historic route again from 30th October 2017, to ensure continuity on this very important business route between Antwerp and the British capital.
